Kurdistan Leaders Welcome Successful Iraq Parliamentary Elections, Express Hope for New Era of Relations

Peregraf- Following the successful completion of Iraq’s parliamentary elections, leaders of the Kurdistan Region issued congratulatory messages, emphasizing hopes for greater stability, constitutional cooperation, and the protection of citizens’ rights.

KDP President Masoud Barzani: Elections Should Put Iraq on the Right Path

Masoud Barzani, President of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), congratulated the people of Kurdistan and Iraq on the successful electoral process. He expressed gratitude to the families of martyrs, the Peshmerga forces, and all segments of Kurdish society for their role in ensuring a peaceful vote.

Barzani also thanked the KDP leadership, members, and security institutions for their efforts in maintaining calm throughout the election.
He voiced optimism that the results will "lead Iraq onto its correct path," paving the way for stability and positive developments.

PUK President Bafel Talabani Calls for Constitutional Solutions

Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) President Bafel Talabani also congratulated voters across Iraq and thanked the Independent High Electoral Commission and security forces for ensuring an orderly process.

Talabani urged the newly elected representatives to defend citizens’ rights across all regions.
He expressed hope that "a new era of relations between the Kurdistan Region and Iraq will emerge," stressing the need to resolve fundamental issues based on the Iraqi constitution.

Preliminary Results in the Kurdistan Region

According to preliminary results from the Iraqi parliamentary elections, the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) leads in the Kurdistan Region, followed by the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK). The Kurdistan Islamic Union (Yakgirtu) has placed third.

The Halwest (Stance) Movement has overtaken the New Generation Movement, emerging as the fourth largest force in the region, while the New Generation Movement has moved to fifth place.

In the Sulaymaniyah–Halabja electoral district, invalid votes accounted for a significant percentage, ranking second only after the PUK in terms of numbers.

Preliminary results indicate that of the 46 seats allocated to the Kurdistan Region, two are quota seats, while the remaining 44 seats are distributed among the parties as follows:

Erbil (15 seats): KDP 10, PUK 2, Halwest 2, New Generation 1
Sulaymaniyah (18 seats): PUK 8, Halwest 3, New Generation 2, KDP 2, Yakgirtu 2, Komal 1
Duhok (11 seats): KDP 9, Yakgirtu 2

Polling stations opened November 11 at 7 a.m. and the voting process concluded at 6 p.m. across Iraq, marking the official close of election day.
