KDP President Masoud Barzani Condemns Khor Mor Attack, Says Condemnations Alone No Longer Enough
Peregraf – Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) President Masoud Barzani strongly condemned the attack on the Khor Mor gas field, warning that repeated assaults on the Kurdistan Region’s vital infrastructure cannot continue without decisive action.
In a statement issued by the Barzani Headquarters, he said: “We condemn in the strongest terms the terrorist attack on the Khor Mor gas field last night, which targets the economic infrastructure and the interests of the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, and all citizens.”
Barzani criticized the lack of concrete measures taken against the perpetrators of previous attacks, saying the response has been limited to verbal condemnation.
“Although such illegitimate attacks against the Region have been repeatedly condemned, the matter has been limited to condemnation only, without taking any deterrent measures against the perpetrators. Consequently, these aggressions continue to recur constantly,” the statement read.
He stressed that the time has come for serious and practical steps to put an end to the repeated attacks on the Region’s energy and economic infrastructure.
“The time has come to take serious and practical steps regarding these infringements and unjust attacks, to put an end to them, and to punish the perpetrators,” Barzani said.
The remarks follow Wednesday night’s strike on the Khor Mor gas field in the Chamchamal district of Sulaymaniyah Governorate, which ignited a fire in one of the main tanks and forced a halt in gas exports at 11:30 p.m., leading to power disruptions across parts of the Kurdistan Region. Khor Mor—operated by Dana Gas—is the Region’s largest gas field and has been repeatedly targeted by drone and missile attacks over the past two years, including a deadly strike in April 2024 that killed four workers.
