KRG Says Iraqi Federal Report Names Perpetrators of Drone Attacks; Khor Mor Strike a 'Direct Consequence' of Inaction
Peregraf - The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG)’s Ministry of Interior disclosed that a Iraqi federal investigative report—submitted to the Iraqi Prime Minister more than two months ago—explicitly identifies the parties responsible for repeated drone attacks against oil and energy infrastructure in the Kurdistan Region. The Ministry accused Baghdad of failing to take any legal or security measures despite the seriousness of the findings.
According to the Ministry, between June 15 and July 25, 2025, multiple oil fields, installations, and vital facilities across the Region were targeted by drone strikes, causing major material and economic damage. In response, the Iraqi Prime Minister ordered the formation of a Joint Investigative Committee, chaired by the National Security Advisor and comprising federal and regional security, military, and intelligence agencies.
The Committee visited the Kurdistan Region on July 28, conducting technical inspections at the affected sites. The Ministry reported that analysis of the drone remnants revealed that they were launched from areas under the control of Iraqi federal forces, just outside the borders of the Kurdistan Region. The Kurdistan Regional security agencies also submitted documented confessions from detainees affiliated with specific organizations believed to be involved.
After completing its work, the Higher Investigative Committee submitted a detailed report to the Iraqi Federal Prime Minister. The KRG Inerior Ministry stressed that the final report clearly identifies the parties responsible for what it described as “terrorist attacks” targeting the Kurdistan Region’s energy infrastructure. It also included several recommendations—most importantly, convening the National Security Council to discuss the findings and initiate legal action against the perpetrators.
However, the KRG Ministry said none of the recommendations have been implemented, despite the passage of more than two months.
“We wish to clarify to the public that the final report, which is currently in the hands of the Iraqi Federal Prime Minister, clearly identifies the parties responsible for the terrorist attacks,” the Ministry stated. “Despite the dangerous nature of these assaults, no measures have been taken.”
Wednesday’s Attack on Khor Mor
The Ministry linked last night’s attack on the Khor Mor gas field directly to the Iraqi Federal Government’s continued inaction. The strike, which targeted one of the most vital energy installations supplying natural gas to power plants across the Kurdistan Region, once again disrupted operations and heightened public concern over repeated assaults on critical infrastructure.
Although damage assessments are still underway, early information indicates that the attack involved an explosive-laden drone similar to those used in previous incidents. The strike caused operational suspensions at the field and posed immediate risks to workers and nearby communities.
KRG Warns It Will Take Necessary Measures
The KRG Interior Ministry said that Baghdad’s failure to act on the report’s findings constitutes a breach of its constitutional and security responsibilities and has “encouraged these organizations to persist” in their attacks.
It stressed that the KRG reserves the right to take all necessary measures to protect its security, economy, and strategic infrastructure—within the framework of the Iraqi Constitution and applicable laws.
