Peregraf – A high-level Iraqi–Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) committee tasked with investigating the latest attack on the Khor Mor gas field visited the site on Thursday, holding a joint meeting with security and technical teams as part of an urgent probe into the incident.

The committee — formed by a directive from Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani — includes Iraqi Interior Minister Abdul-Amir al-Shammari, KRG Interior Minister Reber Ahmed, and the head of the Iraqi Intelligence Service, Hamid al-Shatri. Officials from the U.S.-led International Coalition are also supporting the investigation.

According to the decision establishing the committee, it will conduct a comprehensive assessment of the attack, gather evidence, and identify the parties responsible.

The visit comes more than 35 hours after a drone strike targeted the Khor Mor gas field, located in the Chamchamal district of Sulaymaniyah Governorate, forcing a halt in gas exports around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday night. The attack triggered a fire in one of the main tanks, leading to electricity disruptions across Erbil, Chamchamal, and Sulaymaniyah. No casualties were reported.

Khor Mor — operated by UAE-based Dana Gas — is the largest gas field in the Kurdistan Region and a critical source of fuel for electricity generation. The site has faced repeated drone and missile attacks over the past two years, including a deadly strike in April 2024 that killed four workers.

The joint investigative committee is expected to present its findings to the Iraqi Prime Minister in the coming days, amid growing domestic and international pressure to hold the perpetrators accountable and prevent further attacks on vital energy infrastructure.
