Gas Flow from Khor Mor Field Resumes; 'Electricity to Normalize Within 24 Hours', Says KRG

Peregraf - The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG)’s Ministry of Electricity announced early Sunday that gas flow from the Khor Mor field to power generation stations has resumed, paving the way for the full restoration of electricity across the Kurdistan Region within the next 24 hours.

The KRG ministry said the transfer of gas restarted at 2:00 AM, allowing power plants to gradually return to operation after days of disruption. “The electricity situation is currently improving, and the situation will be completely normalized within 24 hours,” the statement said.

The resumption follows the latest in a series of attacks targeting the Khor Mor field. The most recent strike, carried out a few days ago on 26 November, 2025 with explosive projectiles, caused a shutdown of production and triggered widespread electricity outages in the Kurdistan Region and parts of Iraq. The attack was part of a pattern of repeated assaults on the facility—now numbering eleven—that have repeatedly threatened the Kurdistan Region’s energy security and critical infrastructure.

Technical teams from the KRG Ministry of Electricity and the Ministry of Natural Resources have been working around the clock to stabilize the system and restore generation capacity. Officials say the restart of gas flow marks a significant step toward returning the grid to normal.

The Khor Mor field, operated by Dana Gas, is one of the Kurdistan Region’s most vital energy assets, supplying gas to major power stations in Erbil, Sulaymaniyah, and Duhok.
