Peregraf - Fans of Zakho SC have been awarded the FIFA Fan Award 2025 in recognition of a powerful act of solidarity and compassion that captured global attention.
Ahead of Zakho SC’s Iraqi Stars League match against Al-Hudood on 13 May 2025, thousands of supporters threw stuffed toys onto the pitch. The toys were collected before kickoff and donated to children suffering from illnesses, turning a football match into a moment of hope and generosity.
In a statement, the club praised its supporters, saying the gesture “showed exemplary humanitarian spirit, recognised by the sports community in Kurdistan, Iraq, and Asia,” adding that the fans remain “the backbone of the team” through their creative and meaningful initiatives.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino congratulated Zakho SC fans, describing them as “deserving winners” of the 2025 award. He said the gesture was “moving and inspiring,” highlighting how football can unite communities and promote compassion beyond the game.
