Peregraf - Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani declared that Iraq will act decisively against any party attempting to draw the country into ongoing regional conflicts, as he chaired the 9th regular session of the Council of Ministers on Tuesday.

At the start of the session, Al-Sudani addressed the escalating situation in the region, stressing that only the Iraqi state—through its constitutional institutions—holds the authority to decide matters of war and peace. He warned that the government would firmly confront any actors seeking to involve Iraq in the widening confrontation, emphasizing the need to protect the country’s supreme interests and national stability.

The Prime Minister reaffirmed Baghdad’s commitment to safeguarding Iraq’s sovereignty, including its airspace and territorial waters, and preventing their use in the current conflict. He added that Iraqi Armed Forces remain fully committed to protecting public and private property, as well as diplomatic missions and foreign embassies.

His remarks come as the war involving the United States, Israel, and Iran is in its fourth consecutive day, raising fears of broader regional spillover.

In the Kurdistan Region, Erbil has faced an intense wave of attacks, with around 100 missiles and drones launched in recent days. U.S. defense systems intercepted all incoming threats before they reached their targets, according to officials.

The attacks have been attributed to Iran and armed factions affiliated with the so-called Islamic Resistance in Iraq—a network of Iran-aligned groups operating in the country.

Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani said authorities are making “every effort” to protect the region and its population amid the escalating violence. He accused “outlawed and terrorist entities” of deliberately targeting Erbil and called on the federal government to take decisive steps to stop further attacks.

The developments underscore mounting pressure on Baghdad to balance internal security with rising regional tensions, as leaders warn against Iraq being pulled deeper into the conflict.
