Peregraf — The Komala Party of Iranian Kurdistan has formally joined the recently established Coalition of Political Forces of Iranian Kurdistan, expanding the alliance of Kurdish opposition groups.

“This is a necessary development for the people of Kurdistan, who require greater coordination in the current climate,” said Abdullah Mohtadi, the party’s secretary-general.

The coalition was established on February 22, 2026, when five Kurdish opposition factions announced a unified political front. In their initial declaration, the groups asserted that the current political system in Iran has lost its legitimacy and emphasized the need for a coordinated response to internal instability.

The founding members of the alliance include the Kurdistan Freedom Party (PAK), the Free Life Party of Kurdistan (PJAK), the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan (PDKI), the Organization of Iranian Kurdistan Struggle (Khabat), and the Komala of the Toilers of Kurdistan. The group was formed following a series of high-level meetings between party leaders aimed at synchronizing political activities amid ongoing regional tensions.

In its inaugural communiqué, the coalition characterized unity among Kurdish forces as a “political necessity,” suggesting that previous divisions within the opposition have historically benefited the central government in Tehran.

“The government has endured in part due to the fragmentation of opposing forces,” the statement read, adding that the alliance intends to present a more cohesive alternative.

The inclusion of the Komala Party of Iranian Kurdistan follows several weeks of negotiations and signals a consolidation of the Kurdish political landscape during a period of heightened uncertainty for the Islamic Republic.
