Peregraf- Masrour Barzani, Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), announced that he held a phone call with Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, to discuss regional developments and a drone attack that targeted the UAE Consulate General in Erbil.

During the call, Barzani reaffirmed the Kurdistan Region's commitment to strengthening bilateral ties with the UAE and condemned the drone strike.

"We condemned last night's drone attack on the UAE Consulate General in Erbil and stressed that the attacks are unacceptable and won't deter us," Barzani said.

The remarks came after the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs denounced the incident as an "unprovoked terrorist drone attack" targeting its diplomatic mission in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. The ministry said the attack caused material damage but resulted in no casualties or injuries.

Late on Monday night, the Kurdistan Region Anti-Terrorism Directorate announced that two of the three armed drones were intercepted and shot down over Erbil at 22:24 local time; however, the third evaded interception and struck the UAE Consulate building directly. No casualties or injuries were reported.

The incident comes amid an intensifying wave of drone and missile attacks across the Kurdistan Region in recent days. Security sources say more than 100 drones and missiles have targeted various locations across the region over the past week.

The attacks have been widely attributed either to Iran or to armed factions aligned with what is referred to as the "Islamic Resistance," a network of Iran-backed groups operating inside Iraq. Many of the strikes have targeted areas near energy infrastructure and security installations, raising concerns about the security of critical facilities in the autonomous region.

The escalation coincides with the ongoing war involving the United States and Israel against Iran, now in its eleventh day, heightening concerns that the Kurdistan Region could be drawn further into the widening regional confrontation.
