'Iran’s Missile Strikes on Peshmerga' in Soran Kill 6, Wound 30: KRG Leaders Condemn Attack
Peregraf — The Kurdistan Regional officials strongly condemned a missile attack carried out early Tuesday against Peshmerga forces in the Soran region of Erbil, which killed six fighters and injured 30 others.
In a statement, Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani described the attack as “a direct act of aggression against the country’s sovereignty” and offered condolences to the families of the martyrs, wishing the injured a speedy recovery. He emphasized that the Kurdistan Region has always pursued peace and stability, committed to non-interference, and poses no threat to neighboring countries. “This attack bears no justification and completely contradicts the principles of good neighborliness,” he said.
KRG Prime Minister Masrour Barzani also condemned the strike, calling it “treacherous and cowardly,” and reiterated that the government will take all necessary measures to confront ongoing aggression. He called on Baghdad and the international community to act to prevent further attacks on the Kurdistan Region.
The Ministry of Peshmerga reported that two separate strikes targeted a headquarters of the 1st Sector’s 7th Infantry Division and a unit of the 5th Infantry Division. According to the ministry, the positions were hit by "six Iranian ballistic missiles" in what it described as “a hostile act defined by treachery and betrayal,” violating humanitarian norms and principles of neighborly relations.
The ministry condemned the attack and stated that it “reserves every right to respond” to aggression against the Kurdistan Region. It urged the Iraqi federal government, the international community, and allied partners to take a firm stance, calling on all parties to prevent instability from spilling into the region.
