Peregraf — Iraqi authorities announced Tuesday the arrest of four individuals accused of launching rockets from Iraqi territory toward northeastern Syria, in an incident that had drawn sharp criticism from Kurdish-led forces across the border.

According to an official statement by Sabah al-Numan, spokesman for the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, the attack was carried out at 20:20 on March 23 from the Rabia subdistrict using a Kia vehicle. Iraqi security forces, backed by intelligence units, moved immediately after the launch and successfully apprehended the suspects, seized the vehicle, and referred them for investigation.

The statement described the incident as a "reckless and irresponsible act" that violates Iraq’s security strategy and its commitment to regional stability. Authorities said operations are ongoing to arrest all those involved and ensure they are brought to justice without delay.

Baghdad reaffirmed that it "will not allow its territory to be used as a launching point for attacks against any state," stressing that any attempt to drag Iraq into external conflicts will be met with firm measures.

The development follows condemnation from Sipan Hemo, Deputy Defense Minister for Syria’s Eastern Region and a senior commander in the Syrian Democratic Forces, who blamed Iraqi territory for the missile strike targeting the Kharab al-Jir base in al-Hasakah.

Hemo said the attack caused material damage but no casualties, urging Iraqi authorities to take immediate and decisive steps to prevent similar incidents.
