Peregraf — A drone attack targeted the residence of Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani in the city of Duhok on Saturday. Footage of the incident, recorded at approximately 11:16 AM, confirms the strike and captures the sound of heavy automatic gunfire as security forces attempted to shoot the drone down before impact. Following the engagement, a large explosion occurred, sending a plume of white smoke over the property.

According to the Prime Minister’s Media Office, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani condemned the attack during a phone call with Barzani to discuss the escalating security situation. Al-Sudani expressed his rejection of the "blatant attack" on the President’s home and directed the formation of a joint security and technical committee. This body, composed of federal security agencies and Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) forces, is tasked with investigating the technical aspects of the strike, identifying the perpetrators, and initiating legal measures.

Al-Sudani emphasized his administration's commitment to preventing any domestic, regional, or international "outlaw entity" from involving Iraq in the wider regional conflict. While the federal government has been vocal regarding the investigation, the Kurdistan Region Presidency has not yet issued a formal public comment on the specific details of the strike or the failed interception attempt.

The incident occurs on the 29th day of the US–Israel War on Iran, which began on February 28, 2026. Data compiled by the Peregraf Media Foundation indicates that more than 500 drones and missiles have targeted various locations in the Kurdistan Region since the start of the war. These operations are attributed to either the Iranian military or the Islamic Resistance in Iraq.

According to Peregraf, these strikes have resulted in at least 13 fatalities, including Peshmerga personnel and security officers, with approximately 50 others wounded. A major escalation occurred on March 24, when six Peshmerga fighters were killed in ballistic missile strikes in Erbil Province. The newly formed joint committee is currently investigating the Duhok attack, as no group has officially claimed responsibility.
