IRGC Condemns Drone Attack on Nechirvan Barzani’s Residence, Calls It a 'Terrorist Act'
Peregraf — The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), an elite Iranian military force, issued a statement on Saturday condemning the drone attack that targeted the residence of Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani in Duhok. The IRGC described the strike as a "terrorist act" by "aggressive enemies" and framed the incident as part of a broader pattern of hostile operations in the region.
In the statement released by its public relations office, the IRGC attributed recent regional instability and assassinations to "terrorist American and Zionist forces." The group claimed that the attack on Barzani’s home was intended to undermine peace and cooperation between the Kurdistan Region and neighboring states. Furthermore, the IRGC expressed its readiness to "defend the security of its neighbors" and proposed the establishment of a collective regional defense framework.
The statement follows an aerial strike that occurred at approximately 11:16 AM. Footage of the incident confirms the impact at the residence and captures the sound of heavy automatic gunfire as security forces attempted to shoot the drone down. The engagement was followed by a large explosion and a plume of white smoke rising from the property in the city of Duhok.
While the IRGC statement frames the ongoing escalation as part of wider regional tensions, the Kurdistan Region Presidency has not yet provided a formal public comment on the specific technical details of the strike on the President's home.
The incident took place on the 29th day of the US–Israel War on Iran, which began on February 28, 2026. According to data compiled by the Peregraf Media Foundation, the Kurdistan Region has been targeted by more than 500 drones and missiles since the onset of the war. These operations are attributed to either the Iranian military or the Islamic Resistance in Iraq.
The conflict has resulted in at least 13 fatalities in Kurdistan Region, including Peshmerga and security personnel, with approximately 50 others wounded. A major escalation occurred on March 24, when six Peshmerga fighters were killed in ballistic missile strikes in Erbil Province. Currently, the IRGC is urging coordinated regional efforts to prevent further destabilization as investigations into the Duhok attack continue.
