Masoud Barzani Says 'Our Headquarters Have Been Attacked Five Times' Amid Escalating Drone Strikes in Duhok
Peregraf — The Kurdistan Democratic Party president Masoud Barzani said “our headquarters have been attacked five times” during the current period, revealing that the incidents were deliberately kept undisclosed to avoid causing public anxiety and anger.
The remarks come as tensions surge following a second drone attack within less than 24 hours targeting the residence of Nechirvan Barzani in Duhok, according to a source who spoke to Peregraf. Drones were still audible over the city at the time of reporting, heightening fears of an ongoing aerial threat.
In a statement, KDP president stressed that despite the Kurdistan Region not being a party to regional conflicts, it has faced sustained attacks, including hundreds of drone and missile strikes against the Region and Peshmerga Forces positions.
He highlighted that the repeated targeting of leadership sites—including five attacks on party headquarters—marks a serious escalation, warning that such actions threaten the overall stability of the Kurdistan Region.
The latest incident follows an earlier strike at approximately 11:16 AM on March 28, 2026, where security forces were seen firing heavy automatic weapons in an attempt to intercept a drone before an explosion confirmed the impact.
Describing the attacks as a “grave injustice” and a “provocation for war,” Barzani called on Iraqi authorities to take decisive action to halt armed groups responsible for the strikes.
He reaffirmed that the people of Kurdistan will continue to defend their cause, stating that no attack or threat will break their will.
The incident occurs on the 29th day of the US–Israel War on Iran, which began on February 28, 2026. Data compiled by the Peregraf Media Foundation indicates that more than 500 drones and missiles have targeted various locations in the Kurdistan Region since the start of the war. These operations are attributed to either the Iranian military or the Islamic Resistance in Iraq.
According to Peregraf, these strikes have resulted in at least 13 fatalities, including Peshmerga personnel and security officers, with approximately 50 others wounded. A major escalation occurred on March 24, when six Peshmerga fighters were killed in ballistic missile strikes in Erbil Province. The newly formed joint committee is currently investigating the Duhok attack, as no group has officially claimed responsibility.
