KRG Prime Minister Barzani Says Drone Attacks Have Killed at Least Five Despite Ceasefire
Peregraf — Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani said ongoing drone attacks on the Kurdistan Region of Iraq have killed at least five people and injured many more, despite a ceasefire and ongoing peace talks between the United States and Iran.
In a statement posted on X, Barzani condemned the recent attacks, claiming the Kurdistan Region continues to be targeted even though it is not part of the wider US-Israel war on Iran.
"We strongly condemn the ongoing drone attacks against the Kurdistan Region over the last several days. Although we have not been part of the conflict, we continue to come under attack," he said.
Barzani claimed the attacks are aimed at undermining the ceasefire and causing further damage to the region.
He called on the Iraqi federal government to take practical measures to stop the attacks and prevent further escalation.
The prime minister also urged international partners to provide the necessary equipment to protect the Kurdistan Region, including civilian areas and critical energy infrastructure.
The Kurdistan Region has faced repeated drone and missile strikes in recent weeks, with attacks targeting military positions, Iranian Kurdish opposition group bases, and energy facilities, continuing even after the announced ceasefire.
