Peregraf — U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Washington will extend the ceasefire with Iran after a request from Pakistan’s military chief and prime minister, while maintaining the ongoing blockade and military readiness.
In a statement, Trump said the decision came after Field Marshal Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif asked the United States to delay further military action against Iran.
“Based on the fact that the Government of Iran is seriously fractured, and upon the request of Field Marshal Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif of Pakistan, we have been asked to hold our attack on the country of Iran,” Trump said.
He added that the pause would remain in place until Iranian leaders and representatives present what he described as a “unified proposal.”
Trump said he had directed the U.S. military to continue the blockade and remain fully prepared for further action if negotiations fail.
“I have therefore directed our military to continue the blockade and, in all other respects, remain ready and able,” he said.
The U.S. president stated that the ceasefire would remain extended until Iran submits its proposal and discussions are completed “one way or the other.”
