Peregraf — The Kurdistan Regional Government's (KRG) Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs said U.S. assistance to the Peshmerga has not been suspended, clarifying that only support specifically tied to counter-ISIS operations has ended.
In a statement issued on May 3, the ministry dismissed circulating reports as "baseless," affirming that cooperation with the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) remains in place under an existing memorandum of understanding (MoU).
Aid Continues Under Existing Agreement
The ministry said U.S. financial and logistical support continues as part of the MoU aimed at advancing reforms and unifying Peshmerga forces.
However, it noted that assistance related to combat operations against the Islamic State (ISIS) has ceased due to the group's reduced activity.
MoU Set to Expire in September
According to the statement, the current agreement is scheduled to expire in September 2026, with expectations that new negotiations will begin soon to renew cooperation between both sides.
The ministry emphasized that support mechanisms are structured according to timelines agreed upon in the MoU and remain ongoing.
