Drone Destroyed Over Erbil
In a separate incident, Coalition Forces' air defense systems intercepted and destroyed a drone over Erbil airspace that was reportedly heading toward the city.
The explosion caused by the interception was heard across multiple areas near Erbil International Airport and throughout the city.
Continued Attacks Despite Ceasefire
The latest incidents follow renewed attacks carried out by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and Iranian-aligned Iraqi armed groups against Iranian Kurdish opposition camps in the Kurdistan Region, despite the April 8 ceasefire announced between Iran and the United States in the context of the broader US-Israel War on Iran.
On May 6, two drones struck the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan (PDKI) camp at Girde Chal, north of Erbil, which according to the PDKI houses families of its members. The Girde Chal strike followed an earlier attack on the night of May 5, which targeted the Komala of the Toilers of Kurdistan camp in Surdash, in the Sulaymaniyah area, causing material damage with no casualties reported.
Kurdistan Region Remains Under Attack
According to local monitoring and figures published by the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), the Kurdistan Region and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are the only locations reportedly targeted by Iran since the ceasefire took effect.
The Kurdistan Region has experienced a major wave of missile and drone attacks since February 28, linked to the broader US-Israel War on Iran.
According to the KRG, 809 attacks were recorded between February 28 and April 20, resulting in 20 deaths and 123 injuries.
The attacks have targeted civilian areas, infrastructure, Peshmerga forces, security personnel, and Iranian Kurdish opposition groups based in the Kurdistan Region.
