UAE Condemns Drone Attack on Barakah Nuclear Plant, Urges Iraq to Prevent Attacks From Its Territory
Peregraf- The United Arab Emirates on Tuesday strongly condemned what it described as "terrorist attacks" launched by drones from Iraqi territory, including an attack targeting the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant.
According to a statement from the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, one of the drones struck a power generator outside the plant’s inner perimeter on Sunday.
UAE Calls for Immediate Iraqi Action
The UAE Foreign Ministry said it "condemns in the strongest terms" the attacks and completely rejects "these criminal terrorist attacks originating from Iraqi territory."
The ministry stated that attacks against civilian facilities in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries constitute "a flagrant violation" of sovereignty and airspace and breach international law, international humanitarian law, and the UN Charter.
It also called on the Iraqi government to urgently and unconditionally prevent hostile acts launched from Iraqi territory.
"The government of Iraq must address these threats in an urgent, immediate, and responsible manner," the statement said.
The UAE additionally stressed the importance of Iraq playing a constructive role in preserving regional security and stability.
raq Condemned Attack Earlier
On May 18, Iraq’s Foreign Ministry also condemned the drone attack on the UAE.
In its statement, Baghdad expressed solidarity with the UAE and affirmed support for protecting the country’s sovereignty and stability.
The Iraqi Foreign Ministry said the attack caused a fire at an electrical generator located outside the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the Al Dhafra region.
Regional Tensions Continue
The incident comes amid escalating regional tensions and increasing concerns over drone attacks involving armed groups operating across Iraq and the wider region.
The Barakah facility is the first nuclear power plant in the Arab world and is considered one of the UAE’s most strategically important energy sites.
