Nechirvan Barzani, Iranian Foreign Minister Discuss Border Security and Regional Developments
Peregraf- Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani and Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi held a phone call on Friday night to discuss relations between Iraq, the Kurdistan Region, and Iran, according to the Kurdistan Region Presidency.
The statement said the two sides discussed strengthening ties, particularly in the fields of economic cooperation and trade.
Focus on Border Security
During the call, Barzani and Araghchi also exchanged views on enhancing coordination aimed at protecting border security.
The discussion comes amid ongoing security concerns along the Iraq-Iran border and repeated tensions involving Iranian Kurdish armed groups based in the Kurdistan Region.
Regional Developments Discussed
The two officials also reviewed the latest developments in the Middle East and stressed the importance of regional efforts to maintain security and stability.
According to the presidency, several other issues of mutual interest were also discussed during the call.
The call comes as regional tensions continue to affect Iraq and neighboring countries, including the ongoing U.S.-Israel war on Iran.
