Peregraf- Iraq’s Supreme Judicial Council announced that investigators have seized dozens of properties, millions of dollars in cash, gold, and weapons as part of an ongoing corruption investigation involving former Deputy Oil Minister for Refining Affairs, Adnan Mohammed Mahmoud.
According to a statement issued by the Judicial Council’s media office, an investigating judge at the Central Criminal Court for Combating Corruption said preliminary investigations into the case have led to extensive legal measures against Mahmoud and other individuals connected to the case.
Properties, Cash, and Gold Seized
The judge said authorities have so far seized approximately 40 properties located in Baghdad, Salah al-Din, and Erbil.
Investigators also confiscated around $10 million in cash, 3 billion Iraqi dinars, and approximately 1.5 kilograms of gold jewelry, according to the statement.
Weapons Also Confiscated
The investigation additionally resulted in the seizure of what the court described as large quantities of light and medium weapons.
The Judicial Council did not provide further details regarding the type of weapons recovered or their locations.
Investigation Continues
The judge said investigations remain ongoing to identify all individuals and entities allegedly involved in the case.
No further details were released regarding the specific corruption charges being investigated or whether additional arrests are expected.
The case represents one of the most significant recent anti-corruption investigations involving a former senior official in Iraq’s oil sector, which remains the country’s largest source of government revenue.
