Peregraf — The armed wing of the Free Life Party of Kurdistan (PJAK) said its fighters repelled attacks by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in the Marivan region of western Iran, claiming that Iranian forces suffered casualties during the clashes.
In a statement released by its Media and Press Center, the Eastern Kurdistan Defense Units (YRK), the military wing affiliated with PJAK, said Iranian Revolutionary Guard forces had been conducting military operations against its positions in the Marivan area since June 7.
According to the statement, Iranian forces shelled the area with artillery and mortar fire as part of the operation.
“Since June 7, movements by the military forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards have targeted our forces in the Marivan region, and the enemy has been bombarding the area with artillery and mortars,” the YRK said.
The group said its fighters responded to the attacks under what it described as their right to self-defense.
“Within the framework of legitimate self-defense, our forces did not remain silent and retaliated against the enemy’s attacks,” the statement said.
The YRK claimed that none of its fighters were killed or injured during the clashes, while Iranian forces sustained casualties, including deaths and injuries. The group did not provide specific figures, and the claims could not be independently verified.
Iranian authorities have not publicly commented on the statement or confirmed any casualties among IRGC personnel.
PJAK is a Kurdish armed and political organization that operates in Kurdish-populated areas of western Iran and maintains bases in the mountainous border regions between Iraq and Iran. Tehran considers the group a militant organization and has periodically conducted military operations against its fighters near the border.
The reported clashes come amid heightened tensions across the region following recent military confrontations involving Iran and growing security concerns along Iran’s western frontier.
No independent information was immediately available regarding the scale of the clashes or the extent of casualties on either side.
