Peregraf — Iraqi security forces launched a large-scale anti-corruption operation in Baghdad on Saturday, deploying heavily armed units across the Green Zone and other parts of the capital to arrest a number of senior officials, according to preliminary reports.
The operation reportedly targets several high-ranking figures, including political party leaders, members of parliament, and government officials accused of corruption.
According to initial information, the operation was ordered by Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi and remains ongoing.
Security forces were deployed in large numbers throughout the Green Zone and other locations in Baghdad as authorities carried out the arrests.
The identities of those detained and the specific charges against them have not yet been officially announced.
Prime Minister al-Zaidi is expected to issue a statement outlining the details of the operation once it concludes.
The operation comes as al-Zaidi’s government has repeatedly declared combating corruption to be one of its highest priorities, pledging to pursue investigations regardless of the political position or status of those involved.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more official information becomes available.
