Peregraf — Iraq and Turkey have agreed to sign a temporary protocol to ensure the continued export of Iraqi oil, including crude produced in the Kurdistan Region, through the Iraq-Turkey pipeline to the Turkish port of Ceyhan.

The announcement was made Friday by Amanj Rahim, Secretary of the Kurdistan Region Council of Ministers, following talks in Ankara.

According to Rahim, the temporary protocol will remain in force until Baghdad and Ankara negotiate and sign a new long-term agreement governing oil exports through the Ceyhan pipeline.

He said the new agreement is expected to be finalized within one year.

The interim arrangement comes as the current Iraq-Turkey Pipeline (ITP) agreement, which has governed oil exports between the two countries for the past 15 years, is set to expire on July 27, 2026.

The agreement is intended to ensure the uninterrupted export of Iraqi oil, including production from the Kurdistan Region’s oil fields, while negotiations continue on a permanent framework for future exports.
