Peregraf- Senior security officials from the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and Iraq's federal government on Monday reaffirmed their commitment to implementing the Iraq-Iran security agreement, with both sides emphasizing closer coordination to secure the border and prevent cross-border violations.

A high-level KRG security delegation led by Interior Minister Rebar Ahmed met in Baghdad with Iraqi National Security Adviser Qasim al-Abudi to discuss the country's overall security situation and strengthen cooperation between Erbil and Baghdad.

According to a statement from the KRG Ministry of Interior, the meeting focused on mechanisms for implementing the joint security agreement between Iraq and Iran.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to the agreement's provisions, stressing the need to protect the shared border and prevent violations that could affect regional security.

The meeting follows discussions held on May 24 between Iraqi National Security Adviser Qasim al-Abudi and Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, during which the two sides reviewed continued drone attacks targeting the Kurdistan Region despite the ceasefire that ended hostilities between the United States, Israel, and Iran on April 8.

Following that meeting, al-Abudi announced that a joint security delegation from Baghdad and the KRG would visit Iran to discuss security concerns and enhance coordination with Tehran.

Iran has long expressed concerns over Iranian Kurdish opposition groups based in Iraq's Kurdistan Region, accusing them of carrying out activities that threaten Iranian national security.

The Kurdish opposition groups have repeatedly denied those accusations.

The issue has remained one of the main sources of tension between Baghdad, Erbil, and Tehran in recent years and was a key factor behind the Iraq-Iran security agreement, which aims to reduce cross-border tensions and strengthen border security.
