Peregraf — Iraq’s Finance Minister told the Iraqi Parliament’s Finance Committee on Monday that the Kurdistan Region’s public-sector salaries will be disbursed this month, although he did not specify an exact payment date, according to Dilan Ghafur, a member of the committee.
Speaking to Peregraf, Ghafur said the minister made the remarks during a Finance Committee meeting held in parliament earlier in the day.
“The Finance Minister said the Kurdistan Region’s salaries will be sent this month, but he did not specify the exact timing,” Ghafur said.
He added that next month’s salaries will require a decision by the Iraqi Council of Ministers.
The main obstacle delaying the salary transfers is a dispute over the 120 billion Iraqi dinars in monthly non-oil revenues that the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) is required to transfer to Baghdad under a previous agreement.
The KRG has argued that its domestic revenues are no longer sufficient to provide 120 billion dinars each month and has requested that the amount be revised.
Ghafur said any change to the agreed monthly revenue transfer must be approved by the Iraqi Council of Ministers.
The salary dispute is part of a broader financial disagreement between Baghdad and Erbil over the implementation of budget agreements, including the transfer of non-oil revenues and other financial obligations.
