Drone Strikes Hit Iranian Kurdish Opposition Site Near Erbil, Two Sources Give Differing Details

Peregraf- Two separate statements on Monday described the same drone attack on a site linked to Iranian Kurdish opposition activity in the Erbil area, though the accounts differ in timing and detail.

The Directorate General of Counter Terrorism (CTD), a security body under the Kurdistan Region Security Council, said in a statement on its official Facebook page that three explosive-laden drones struck the Rojhalat refugee camp — a facility sheltering refugees from Iran's Kurdish-populated northwest — in the Dara Shakran area of Erbil's Pirmam subdistrict, at approximately 5:15 a.m. and 5:28 a.m. The CTD said no casualties resulted and did not attribute responsibility for the attack.

The Kurdistan National Army (SMK), the armed wing of the Iranian Kurdish opposition party PAK (Kurdistan Freedom Party), identified the same site as one of its bases and said in its own Facebook statement that three drones struck it at 4:53 a.m., 5:19 a.m., and 5:29 a.m. the same morning. The statement accused what it called the "occupying Iranian state" of carrying out the attack — a characterization made by PAK itself and not independently confirmed. The group did not report any casualties.

The two statements give differing timings and descriptions of the target for what both sources indicate was the same attack.

Part of a wider pattern

Monday's strike is the latest in a long series of drone and missile attacks on Iranian Kurdish opposition sites across the Kurdistan Region since the US-Israel War on Iran began on February 28, 2026. Camps and bases belonging to groups such as PAK, the Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran (KDPI), and the Komala of the Toilers of Kurdistan, located in areas including Koya and Sulaimani, have been struck repeatedly this year.

Kurdistan Region officials have said the region is not a party to the Iran-Israel conflict, while Iranian authorities have described Kurdish opposition groups based in the region as a security threat.
