Peregraf — The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has approved a request from SpaceX to officially launch Starlink satellite internet services in the Kurdistan Region, following technical discussions between the two sides, according to the KRG Ministry of Transport and Communications.
The ministry said SpaceX submitted its formal request in early June 2026 to begin operating Starlink in the Kurdistan Region.
Following weeks of correspondence, representatives from the KRG and SpaceX held an official meeting on June 30 to discuss operational procedures and licensing requirements, the ministry said.
According to the ministry, the KRG delegation included the Director General of Post and Telecommunications, the Director of Legal Affairs, the Director of the Minister's Office, and a representative from the Council of Ministers' Diwan. SpaceX was represented by its Middle East regional supervisor and a company licensing officer.
During the meeting, the ministry said, both sides discussed the technical and regulatory requirements for launching Starlink services in the Kurdistan Region.
The Ministry of Transport and Communications said it presented the government's legal and operational conditions that must be met for the project to serve the interests of residents.
In a statement, the ministry welcomed SpaceX's move, describing Starlink as "one of the world's most advanced telecommunications services."
The ministry said that once the required technical procedures are completed, the launch of Starlink is expected to expand internet service options in the Kurdistan Region and provide greater diversity in telecommunications services for residents.
