Peregraf — Coalition forces intercepted and shot down eight explosive-laden drones over Erbil on Wednesday night, according to the Kurdistan Region’s Counter-Terrorism Directorate.
In a statement, the directorate said the drones were intercepted in Erbil’s airspace between 8:53 p.m. and 9:20 p.m. local time.
“According to information from Kurdistan Counter-Terrorism, tonight, Wednesday, July 15, 2026, between 20:53 and 21:20, Coalition forces intercepted and shot down eight explosive-laden drones in the airspace of Erbil,” the statement said.
The directorate added that no casualties or injuries were reported.
The statement did not identify the origin of the drones or say what their intended target may have been.

The drone attack comes as hostilities between the United States and Iran have resumed following the collapse of an earlier ceasefire, with US Central Command conducting strikes on Iranian targets over multiple consecutive nights since July 11 and Iran and allied forces reportedly striking US and allied positions across the region, according to international reports. While the Kurdistan Region's Counter-Terrorism Directorate did not identify the origin or intended target of the drones intercepted over Erbil, the incident follows a series of drone attacks targeting the Kurdistan Region in recent months amid the wider US-Israel War on Iran.
