Peregraf — Coalition forces intercepted and shot down eight explosive-laden drones over Erbil early Friday, marking the second such incident in less than two days, according to the Kurdistan Region’s Counter-Terrorism Directorate.

In a statement, the directorate said the drones were intercepted between 4:19 a.m. and 5:25 a.m.local time on July 17.

“According to our information, early this morning, Friday, July 17, 2026, between 4:19 a.m. and 5:25 a.m., Coalition forces intercepted and shot down eight explosive-laden drones in the skies of Erbil,” the statement said.

The directorate added that no casualties were reported.

The statement did not identify the origin of the drones or their intended target.

The latest interception came less than 48 hours after Coalition forces shot down another eight explosive-laden drones over Erbil between 8:53 p.m. and 9:20 p.m. on Wednesday, with no casualties reported in that incident either.

The repeated drone attacks come as hostilities between the United States and Iran have resumed following the collapse of an earlier ceasefire. Since July 11, U.S. Central Command has carried out repeated strikes on Iranian targets, while Iran and allied forces have reportedly launched attacks against U.S. and allied positions across the region, according to international reports.

The incidents also follow a series of drone attacks targeting the Kurdistan Region in recent months amid the broader U.S.-Israel conflict with Iran.
