Peregraf — The death toll from the Friday, July 17 missile strike attributed to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on the headquarters of the Komala Party of Iranian Kurdistan (Society of Revolutionary Toilers of Iranian Kurdistan) in Sulaymaniyah province has risen to 10, after one of the wounded fighters died from his injuries, the group said on Tuesday.
Komala announced that Abubakr Hoshangi, who was critically wounded in the attack on the party's headquarters in the Zargawez area and its surrounding positions, had succumbed to his injuries.
"Komala extends its deepest condolences to his family, relatives, and comrades-in-arms, to the struggling people of Kurdistan in general, and especially to the freedom-seeking people of Marivan," the party said in a statement, adding that "the path, cause, and memory of this fallen comrade will never be forgotten."
Komala's Central Committee said in a statement issued Friday, July 17, that nine of its Peshmerga fighters were killed in the missile attack on its bases and camps around Zargawez at approximately 6 a.m. that morning. The party identified the dead as Farhad Ghamari of Divandarreh, Soroush Nasri of Marivan, Sina Safari of Shabad, Yasin Kianpour of Shazand, Ahmad Mahmoudi of Baneh, Reza Sadeghi of Bukan, Kasra Rahmannezhad of Bukan, Siavan Nik-Khah of Bukan, and Zakaria Faghih Hassan-Agha of Bukan.
The strike targeted the Iranian Kurdish opposition base in the Zargawez area of Sulaymaniyah province, causing casualties among Peshmerga members stationed there.
Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) officials have repeatedly said the Kurdistan Region is not a party to the US War on Iran and have called for Iraq's sovereignty and security to be respected. Iranian authorities have long described Iranian Kurdish opposition groups based in the Kurdistan Region as a security threat and have previously carried out cross-border missile and drone strikes against their positions. Tehran has not commented on Friday's attack.
The strike came hours after the Kurdistan Region Security Council's Directorate General of Counter Terrorism (CTD) said Coalition forces intercepted and destroyed eight explosive-laden drones over Erbil, highlighting a sharp escalation in security incidents across the Kurdistan Region.
