Peregraf — A headquarters of Komala of the Toilers of Kurdistan, led by General Secretary Reza Kaabi, in the Alana valley of Erbil province's Choman district was struck by a missile fired by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps on Wednesday, July 22, wounding six Peshmerga fighters, according to a senior party official.
Amjad Hossein Panahi, a member of the party's leadership, said the strike occurred at approximately 6:55 p.m. local time, using a missile he described as a "Kheybar Shekan"-type. He said six Peshmerga fighters were wounded.
Hossein Panahi also said that, including this latest strike, the total number of missiles and drones the IRGC has fired at Komala of the Toilers of Kurdistan positions since the start of the US War on Iran has surpassed 94.
This is the second time in three days that the same headquarters has come under attack. On Monday, July 20, the IRGC struck the party's command headquarters in the Alana Valley with missiles in the early hours of the morning, followed roughly an hour later by two drone strikes on the party's Surdash camp near Sulaymaniyah, wounding two Peshmerga fighters.
Komala of the Toilers of Kurdistan is a separate faction from the Komala Party of Iranian Kurdistan (Society of Revolutionary Toilers of Iranian Kurdistan), led by Abdullah Mohtadi, whose headquarters in the Zargawez area of Sulaymaniyah was hit by a missile strike on Friday, July 17. That attack killed nine Peshmerga fighters, a toll that rose to 10 after Abubakr Hoshangi, one of the wounded, died of his injuries, the party said Tuesday. The dead were identified as Farhad Ghamari of Divandarreh, Soroush Nasri of Marivan, Sina Safari of Shabad, Yasin Kianpour of Shazand, Ahmad Mahmoudi of Baneh, Reza Sadeghi of Bukan, Kasra Rahmannezhad of Bukan, Siavan Nik-Khah of Bukan, and Zakaria Faghih Hassan-Agha of Bukan.
The Kurdistan Region Presidency condemned the earlier strikes as "a dangerous escalation" and "a flagrant violation of Iraq's sovereignty," warning that the attacks threaten Iraq's stability and undermine regional peace efforts. The Kurdistan Region Security Council's Directorate General of Counter Terrorism separately said Coalition forces intercepted and destroyed eight explosive-laden drones over Erbil on Friday, July 17, between 4:19 a.m. and 5:25 a.m.
Kurdistan Regional Government officials have repeatedly said the Kurdistan Region is not a party to the US War on Iran and have called for Iraq's sovereignty and security to be respected. Iranian authorities have long described Iranian Kurdish opposition groups based in the Kurdistan Region as a security threat and have previously carried out cross-border missile and drone strikes against their positions. Tehran has not commented on the strikes.
