Temperatures to Reach 50°C in Kurdistan Region Amid Three-Day Heatwave

Peregraf — A heatwave will sweep across the Kurdistan Region from Tuesday through Thursday, with temperatures expected to peak at 50°C in Garmian on Wednesday, according to the Kurdistan Region’s General Directorate of Meteorology and Seismology.

The agency said the extreme heat is being driven by the intensified influence of the seasonal thermal low-pressure system affecting the region, with Wednesday forecast to be the hottest day.

Maximum temperatures expected on Wednesday include:

* Garmian: 50°C

* Kirkuk: 48°C

* Erbil: 47°C

* Zakho: 47°C

* Duhok: 46°C

* Halabja: 46°C

* Sulaymaniyah: 45°C

* Soran: 45°C

* Raparin: 44°C

The directorate said the heatwave is expected to ease slightly on Thursday, July 30, with temperatures dropping by 1–2°C compared with Wednesday.

It also forecast stronger winds on Wednesday and Thursday, with wind speeds exceeding 30 kilometers per hour in the centers of Erbil and Sulaymaniyah provinces.
