Dana Gas to Restore Full Khor Mor Production After Security Assurances From KRG, Baghdad

Peregraf — Dana Gas said it will restore production at the Khor Mor gas field to previous levels by Monday, following security assurances from the highest levels of both the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and the Iraqi federal government, paving the way for electricity supplies across the Kurdistan Region to return to normal. 

The company said it received guarantees from senior authorities in Erbil and Baghdad after suspending production earlier this month because of security threats and escalating regional tensions.

Located in the Chamchamal district of Sulaymaniyah province, Khor Mor is one of the Kurdistan Region’s most strategically important energy facilities. Operated by Dana Gas and Crescent Petroleum through the Pearl Petroleum consortium, the field supplies natural gas to power plants in Erbil, Chamchamal, and Bazian, making it critical to electricity generation across the region.

Dana Gas suspended production on July 16, citing security concerns following a series of drone attacks targeting infrastructure across the Kurdistan Region.

Shortly afterward, the KRG Ministry of Electricity said reduced gas supplies from Khor Mor had cut electricity generation by approximately 2,500 megawatts, describing the disruption as temporary while authorities worked to restore fuel supplies to power stations. 

The ministry said at the time that all relevant authorities were coordinating efforts to resume gas deliveries as quickly as possible. 

The resumption of production is expected to restore fuel supplies to power plants and improve electricity service for millions of residents across the Kurdistan Region after days of prolonged outages linked to the disruption.
