Peregraf — Iranian media on Wednesday published the names and photographs of four military advisers from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), saying they were killed in coordinated US and Saudi airstrikes in Iraq earlier in the day.
The reports said the four advisers were killed during strikes targeting locations in Iraq but did not specify where they were stationed or the roles they held.
The announcement came hours after the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) said coordinated US-Saudi strikes targeted its headquarters in Baghdad, Nineveh, Basra, Wasit, Karbala, Kirkuk, Salahaddin, and Diyala provinces.
The PMF said at least 20 of its fighters were killed and 32 wounded in what it described as a preliminary toll, adding that specialized committees were continuing to assess the damage and verify casualties.
Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the strikes, carried out in coordination with US Central Command (CENTCOM), targeted locations in Iraq linked to attacks on Saudi oil facilities. The ministry said the operation was conducted in self-defense under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter following a series of drone attacks it attributed to Iran-aligned armed groups in Iraq.
CENTCOM said US and Saudi forces conducted precision strikes against logistics and weapons sites used by Iran-aligned armed groups after more than 30 IRGC-directed drone attacks over the previous 72 hours targeted US forces and Saudi energy infrastructure. It added that the operation was intended to degrade the groups’ ability to carry out further attacks.
Neither the Saudi Foreign Ministry nor CENTCOM specifically identified the PMF or the four IRGC advisers as targets of the operation.
