Peregraf — Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani said Syria has a “historic opportunity” for recovery and reconstruction following talks with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa during his official visit to Damascus on Monday.
In a statement issued after the meeting, Barzani said he was pleased to visit Syria at the invitation of President al-Sharaa and expressed confidence in the country’s future.
“After many years of suffering and hardship, Syria now faces a historic opportunity for recovery, reconstruction, and development,” Barzani said.
He added that he had expressed “full confidence” in President al-Sharaa’s vision, saying Syria could move toward greater stability, prosperity, and a brighter future for all its communities under his leadership.
Barzani reaffirmed support for “a stable and united Syria” in which the rights of all ethnic and religious communities are protected.
“We stressed the importance of Syria’s positive role in promoting peace and security in the region,” he said.
Barzani also emphasized the shared interests of Syria, Iraq, and the Kurdistan Region, saying the three sides have broad opportunities to expand economic cooperation for the benefit of their peoples.
