Peregraf — Iraqi Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi on Wednesday reaffirmed that the September 30 deadline for ending the International Coalition’s mission in Iraq is final and irreversible, as Baghdad moves to strengthen national security and sovereignty.
Al-Zaidi chaired a meeting of the Ministerial Council for National Security, where officials discussed regional developments and measures to protect Iraq’s national interests, according to spokesperson Sabah Al-Numan.
The prime minister stressed the need to strengthen the rule of law, develop Iraq’s security and military institutions, and support economic and social stability.
He also emphasized the implementation of high-level security plans aimed at maintaining internal stability and protecting Iraq’s sovereignty.
Al-Zaidi reiterated that the decision to end the International Coalition’s mission on September 30 “is a final deadline that will not be walked back.”
The statement comes amid heightened regional tensions and continued security concerns in Iraq, with Baghdad seeking to strengthen its own security capabilities while maintaining that Iraq should not be drawn into regional conflicts.
