Peregraf — Iraqi Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi has ordered the formation of an investigative committee to determine the sources and launch points of the attack targeting the office of Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and the residence of the Director of the Kurdistan Region’s Intelligence Agency in Erbil.

According to the Media Office of the Prime Minister, Al-Zaidi also directed the committee to identify all circumstances surrounding the attack and determine the parties responsible.

The prime minister ordered that the findings of the investigation be made public as soon as possible, according to the statement issued Monday, August 17.

The investigation follows an early-morning drone attack in which two explosive-laden Hadid-110 drones, according to Kurdistan Counter-Terrorism, were launched from across the Iranian border and targeted Barzani’s private office and the residence of the head of the Region’s security agency in Erbil’s Pirman district.

No casualties were reported.

Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani condemned the attack, calling it “unjust and unacceptable” and saying it represented a “dangerous step and a direct threat to the security and stability of the Kurdistan Region.”

Kurdistan Region Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani also condemned the attack, saying it disregarded the Region’s “peace-seeking” position and constituted “a dangerous violation of Iraq’s sovereignty.”

The attack was also condemned by U.S. envoy Tom Barrack, who called the targeting of Barzani and his office “unacceptable” and a direct threat to regional stability.
