A third hearing in the freedom of information lawsuits filed by Peregrafs editor-in-chief against Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani and Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani was held in a court in Erbil on Tuesday (October 18).

Peregraf Editor-in-Chiefs Surkew Mohammed and lawyers for President Barzani and Prime Minister Barzani were present in court.

The judge decided to postpone the session on both lawsuits until November 16, 2022 for studying the lawsuits and receiving responses regarding the case from the defendants.

The lawsuits, which are seeking information about how public officials have spent public funds, were filed in Sulaimaniyah on August 4.

There was an initial hearing on September 6 and a second on October 4, when a judge transferred the cases against the president and prime minister to Erbil.

A third lawsuit is also active against Speaker of the Kurdistan Parliament Rewaz Fayaq. The next hearing in that case is scheduled for October 20 in Sulaimaniyah.
