US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has said that the United States wants elections in the Kurdistan Region to be held in which all parties participate.

During a press conference held in Brussels on April 5, 2024, Secretary Blinken responded to a question regarding the Kurdistan parliamentary elections, He said: “We want to see elections go forward, we want to see everyone participate in those elections, and we want to make sure that people feel that they are well represented”.

“And it’s also vitally important that the relationship between Baghdad and Erbil move forward in a positive and productive way for all the people of Iraq, including the Kurdish region.  And we’re very focused on that in our conversations with the government in Baghdad as well as with officials in the KRG. And again, elections I think are an important part of that” Blinken said.

Since the announcement of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) absence from the Kurdistan parliamentary elections, the United States has officially announced its support for elections in which "everyone participates" and considered it necessary for all Kurdish people to have a voice in determining their future.

The KDP's absence from the election is due to their criticism of the process and decisions made by the Federal Supreme Court (FSC), and they have refused to submit their list of candidates even after three extensions by the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC). As a result, the postponement of the election appears to be the most viable option for the Sixth Kurdistan Parliament.

Moreover, the IHEC is currently in the process of organizing the elections on June 10, scheduled for 7th April 2024, by allocating numbers to entities.
