A Peshmerga resident of Khurmatu sustained severe injuries due to a bomb explosion occurring in the region situated between Khurmatu and Kifri.

The Peshmerga Ministry has reported that an explosion occurred this morning in the Ghara region, resulting in injuries to a member of the 3rd Brigade of the Joint Iraqi Army. The injured Peshmerga, identified as Mohammed Ahmed Ali, a resident of Khurmatu, suffered the loss of a leg due to the blast.

Although the official dissolution of the ISIS caliphate occurred in late 2017, after having governed a significant portion of Iraqi territory since 2014, the remnants of their explosives still pose a danger, and dormant cells persist in executing acts of terrorism. In recent months, numerous assaults have been directed at the Peshmerga, the Iraqi military, and civilians across different areas.

On August 10, 2024, two members of the Asaysih (Security) forces lost their lives in Sulaymaniyah's Qaradagh District . On that same day, the Kurdistan Regional Security Agency reported that the assailants were affiliated with the terrorist group ISIS. Furthermore, on July 14, 2024, a confrontation took place between ISIS militants and security personnel in Qarahanjir, leading to the death of one ISIS fighter and injuries to another. During this encounter, one security member was also killed, while another sustained injuries.
