A fierce battle broke out between the Komala Zahmetkeshan Party and Iranian forces in Marivan, resulting in the death of a high-ranking Komala leader. This incident marks the first major clash between Iranian Kurdish parties and Iranian forces since the implementation of the Iraq-Iran security agreement signed in March 2023.

Under the terms of this agreement, Iranian Kurdish factions were to be disarmed and relocated to designated camps, a process that began on September 6, 2024. A group of Komala members, along with their families, was relocated to Surdash camp, signifying Iran's initial enforcement of the two-year-old agreement.

During the recent clash, Rebwar Karimian, also known as Rebwar Daseran, a member of the central committee of the Komala Zahmetkeshan and head of the party’s Forces Commission, was killed. In a statement, Komala acknowledged his death: "After several hours of fighting and resistance, he sacrificed his dear life."

The fighting reportedly began at 3 AM and continued into the afternoon, with the area coming under heavy artillery and mortar fire, according to the Komala statement.

The Komala Zahmetkeshan, along with other Kurdish parties such as the Komala Kurdistan's Organization of the Communist Party of Iran (CPI) and the Revolutionary Association of Kurdistan Workers of Iran, has been active in three villages in the Zrgoez region of Sulaymaniyah province for the past three decades. These groups maintain their headquarters in this region despite ongoing tensions with Iranian forces.
