Peregraf Publishes 97% of the Special Voting Results for the Kurdistan Parliamentary Elections

According to Peregraf's unofficial preliminary results, based on 97% of the special votes counted, the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) has taken the lead, surpassing the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) by over 31,000 votes, with the New Generation Movement in third place.

A source familiar with the political parties reported that out of 208,521 special votes cast, 174,107 were valid, while approximately 29,000 were null, bringing the total counted votes to over 203,000.

Peregraf's results show that the KDP received the highest number of votes, with 82,979. The PUK followed with 51,345 votes, and the New Generation Movement ranked third with 11,207 votes. The Kurdistan Islamic Union (Yakgrtu) placed fourth with 2,885 votes, while the National Stance Movement, led by Ali Hama Salih, which is contesting the elections for the first time, came fifth with 2,492 votes. The Kurdistan Justice Group (Komal) secured sixth place with 2,391 votes, and the People's Front, led by Lahur Sheikh Jangi, which is also a first-time participant, ranked seventh with 2,110 votes.

According to the results, the other parties received the following votes: Kurdistan Coalition: 844 votes, Sardam Coalition: 311 votes, Gorran Movement: 705 votes, Islamic Movement: 137 votes, National Coalition: 44 votes, Islamic Relations: 61 votes, Christian parties: 9,226 votes, Turkmen parties: 6,354 votes, and Independent Candidates: 1,016 votes.

According to Peregraf's sources, the highest number of null votes was recorded in Sulaymaniyah, totaling approximately 17,000, followed by Erbil with around 9,000, Duhok with approximately 3,000, and Halabja with more than 200 null votes.

Voter turnout reached 97%, with 208,521 out of 215,960 registered voters participating in the special voting. Erbil saw the highest number of special voters, with 89,791 registered and 87,513 casting their ballots, resulting in a 97% turnout. Sulaymaniyah followed closely, with 78,661 registered voters and 76,501 voting, also at 97%. Duhok recorded a turnout of 98%, with 40,206 out of 40,956 registered voters casting their ballots. Halabja had 952 registered special voters, of whom 917 participated, achieving a 96% turnout.

The general voting for the Kurdistan Parliamentary elections is set to take place tomorrow, October 20, 2024. Polls will open at 7 AM and close at 6 PM.

The Iraqi Independent High Election Commission (IHEC) has stated that the official results of both the special and general elections will be announced within 24 hours after the general election. Any results published by the political parties will not be accepted by the Commission.
