The General Board for Kurdish Areas Outside the Kurdistan Region, operating under the jurisdiction of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), has expressed concern regarding the prohibition of census activities in certain Kurdish regions within disputed territories.
Fahmi Burhan, the head of the KRG’s General Board for Kurdish Areas Outside the Kurdistan Region, stated during a press conference this evening that "in specific locations, particularly in the villages surrounding Khanaqin and Kulajo, we have observed an extension in Arabization, and some of these villages have not been afforded the opportunity to participate in the census."
He further noted that "there have been misconceptions regarding Makhmur and certain areas shared by Duhok and Nineveh, which have hindered the successful execution of the census."
Burhan acknowledged that "the process has made significant progress in Kirkuk, Khanaqin, Sinjar, and other Kurdish regions," but he cautioned that "this does not imply that we should be complacent."
The registration of citizens and families for the Iraqi general census, which is taking place nationwide, will conclude in 48 hours, with the deadline set for 12 PM tonight. No families will be registered after this time.
This census is being carried out by 120,000 census workers and researchers, with a budget allocation of 459 billion dinars.
