Teachers in several schools in Sulaymaniyah have initiated a boycott, refusing to teach as a form of protest against delayed salary payments. This move underscores growing discontent among educators over the financial instability affecting public sector employees in the Kurdistan Region.

It has been 46 days since the salaries for September were distributed, while October’s payments remain pending for Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) employees. The region has over 1.25 million salaried workers, whose wages have become a contentious issue between the KRG and the federal government in Baghdad.

According to a decision by Iraq’s Federal Supreme Court, the federal government is obligated to provide salaries to KRG employees under certain conditions. However, disputes over payroll records and political disagreements between Erbil and Baghdad continue to cause significant delays, impacting the livelihood of public servants.
