The Commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), Mazloum Abdi, underscored the urgent need for Kurdish national unity in Syria, describing it as a "historical necessity" in light of the current challenges facing the region.
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), Abdi urged Kurdish political parties to set aside partisan interests and prioritize the collective aspirations of the Kurdish people. "We call on the Kurdish parties to move away from partisan interests and respond to popular calls for dialogue and unity of position," he stated, highlighting the critical role of solidarity in navigating the turbulent political landscape of Syria.
He further emphasized the importance of aligning Kurdish unity with broader national objectives, encouraging positive engagement with ongoing efforts to foster a unified stance among Kurdish factions. Abdi stressed that such unity is pivotal not only for advancing Kurdish aspirations but also for contributing to the Syrian dialogue and shaping a future marked by democracy and pluralism.
The call for unity comes amidst ongoing regional and international efforts to resolve the Syrian crisis and address the aspirations of its diverse communities. Kurdish factions in Syria have long faced challenges in presenting a united front, a factor that many believe has hindered their ability to effectively advocate for their rights and interests on the national stage.
Abdi's remarks are expected to resonate with both Kurdish communities and advocates of democratic reform across Syria, adding momentum to efforts aimed at achieving reconciliation and collective action among Kurdish political entities.
