Kurdistan Region President and Italian Defense Minister Agree: ISIS Remains a Threat

Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani and Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto held a meeting in Erbil to discuss regional security and the resurgence of ISIS. Both leaders acknowledged that the extremist group remains a significant threat to stability in Iraq, Syria, and the broader region.
According to a press release from the Kurdistan Region Presidency, the discussions focused on ISIS’s ongoing efforts to reorganize and its movements in the region. They emphasized the need for continued international support for Iraq and the Kurdistan Region to combat the group’s activities and bolster regional security.
The statement also underlined the importance of Iraq avoiding involvement in regional conflicts and prioritizing stability.
Defense Minister Crosetto reaffirmed Italy’s strong ties with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, recognizing them as key partners. He assured continued support and cooperation in all areas. Crosetto also praised the Peshmerga forces for their critical role in defeating ISIS and commended the Kurdistan Region for its stabilizing influence in the region.
