Two sisters, aged six and nine, tragically lost their lives, while their younger brother sustained injuries in a catastrophic house fire that occurred in Sulaymaniyah early this morning.

The blaze erupted around 3:00 a.m., rapidly consuming the family’s apartment. “Our house was engulfed in flames within seven minutes,” the devastated mother recounted, highlighting the swift progression of the fire.

Preliminary reports indicate that the fire may have been ignited by lit candles, although this has yet to be officially verified. While the apartment's alarm system functioned correctly, the fire suppression system failed to activate, worsening the situation.

Initial findings suggest that the two sisters died primarily due to smoke inhalation. Their younger brother, whose age remains undisclosed, is currently receiving medical care for his injuries.

The family, originally from Baghdad and of Arab descent, had been living in Sulaymaniyah for several years. This tragic event has cast a shadow over the community, which is now in mourning.

Authorities are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the fire.
