In a series of joint operations conducted by U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), partner forces, and Iraqi forces in the Hamrin Mountains of Iraq, one coalition member was killed, and two others were wounded during engagements with ISIS fighters. The operations, part of the ongoing Defeat ISIS (D-ISIS) campaign, targeted critical ISIS positions from December 30, 2024, to January 6, 2025.

According to a CENTCOM press release shared on X, no injuries to U.S. personnel or damage to U.S. equipment were reported. The multinational Combined Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve reiterated its commitment to the global fight against ISIS.

The missions aimed to disrupt ISIS’ operational capabilities and thwart planned attacks against civilians, coalition allies, and regional forces. Coalition airstrikes, involving F-16s, F-15s, and A-10 aircraft, were deployed to eliminate ISIS fighters hiding in fortified caves.

General Michael Erik Kurilla, CENTCOM Commander, stressed the importance of the campaign, stating, “Partnered operations like these are critical to maintaining pressure on ISIS and ensuring the group’s defeat. The United States and its allies remain steadfast in their efforts to combat terrorism in the region.”
