Masoud Barzani, the leader of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), convened with the leadership of the Syrian Kurdish National Council (ENKS) today in Pirmam, Erbil. The dialogue centered on the critical need for unity, coordination, and collaborative efforts among Kurdish political entities in Syria. Additionally, they reviewed the recent visit by Mazloum Abdi, the commander-in-chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), as noted in a statement from Barzani’s office.

The discussions delved into the political and security landscape in Syria, the status of ongoing negotiations among Kurdish factions, and initiatives aimed at reconciling differences. Barzani reiterated his dedication to promoting dialogue and peaceful resolutions, emphasizing the importance of unity in overcoming challenges and safeguarding Kurdish rights within the shifting political context of Syria.

Mazloum Abdi’s Previous Engagement with Barzani
This meeting follows a prior discussion on January 16 between President Barzani and General Mazloum Abdi, the Commander-in-Chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). That encounter also occurred in Pirmam and concentrated on reinforcing Kurdish unity and facilitating peaceful negotiations with Damascus.

"We stressed the necessity of Kurdish unity in Syria, and the negotiations with Damascus must ensure the rights of the Kurdish people are upheld peacefully,” Abdi remarked in a statement after his meeting with Barzani. Both leaders underscored the collective responsibility of unity in addressing political and security issues while promoting regional stability.

Barzani’s office reiterated these views, emphasizing the importance of Kurdish factions advocating for their rights through dialogue and non-violent means.

Today’s engagement with the ENKS leadership is part of Barzani’s extensive efforts to consolidate Kurdish factions in Syria. Previous discussions with Abdi and other leaders have established a foundation for enhancing collaboration among Kurdish groups as they navigate the intricate political and security challenges.
